Great Place
Great customer service from all the people that work there. Nice and relaxing to talk to friends and listen to music.
Diverse Crowd
No matter who you are, or what you look like, or what your into, you WILL fit in this club... Beau is a real sweetie too!
Hmm
To be honest I've never been to any club before be it a Gay club or a straight club..I just turned 19 too :)
Been too long
It was a fun dance place where we would go after doing a ladies only Burlesque Show, the music pumped, the sweat was wet, the drugs were outta this world, the drinks were cold, and the tricks were worth the money......I hope nothing has changed!!!
down and dirty!
I was not thrilled that I had to fill out the application to enter the club, but the registration taker was welcoming, so that was good enough for me. A $5.00 cover was easy to live with. What I noticed immediately upon entering was on overwhelmingly bad smell in the place, a mixture of smoke and mustiness. Bathrooms and fixtures were downright dirty. The crowd definitely had a core group of people who let their lives waste away at that club. There was a lot of annoying cackling and drunk, sloppy grinding (instead of dancing) going on. Bartenders in the back bar were ok and im surprised they kept cool with all of the low-class BS they were putting up with. Skip it!
Hit or miss
Four stars is generous. But I believe in the power of redemption. My first experience with this place was one which was purely negative. My lover at the time was in Bulgaria, with his family and I was working late, getting off at 12 in the morning. I wanted to go to a gay bar, have a drink or 3, unwind and then maybe walk home(I lived not far from this place). First, I accepted that since this was Alabama, paying a cover and all that crap. Getting into the first area, I was wanting a drink, the bartender wasn't busy, he was busy talking shit and gossiping. I had my money out, and was wanting a cocktail. The idiot bartender never served me. I wasn't there to hook up, just to unwind after a long night's work. This wasn't a super busy night. Nevertheless I left, didn't get my money back, even though I tried and never went back. If you're cock hungry enough or a glutton for bad service, maybe this place will do in a pinch.
A few months later, some friends dragged me out to this place. And my experience was completely different. This time the place was busy, and packed with guys from University of Alabama at Birmingham(which I attended along with my lover). The vibe was different, the place was busy, packed and lively. Hell, there were even a few places in the club, which could have passed as backrooms, with a little action. The music was OK, if not good. My initial experience was NOT pleasant, but my second and third experiences at this club improved my opinion. However, it has been a while since I was there.
Improvements
The Quest was my first gay bar/club. Back then it was the best place to go. Over time I have seen this place go way downhill. The last few times I went they did make a few changes and improvements. They took out the stage to the lef of thw dancefloor entrance and put tables, widened out the area and made it much more roomy. Dancefloor stays packed on Friday and Saturday after the horrible drag shows. Drinks are mediocre but the back bartenders are at least nice and somewhat attractive. If the would clean the place up and present it a bit better, this place might actually return to some decency.
Ugh, really?
Was here Easter weekend, and this place was harder to get into than Ft. Knox! ID's, application forms at the door, long lines, slow, slow, slow. However, once inside the music was great! Service was slow, but the place was packed!
Worst thing for the gay community since Anita Bryant
We had to stand in que for 45 minutes just to get in. They wanted copies of our driver's licenses and we had to fill out paperwork. They wanted to know our employers, occupation, everything. The bathrooms looked like the set of a good adult movie. Metal walls that had rusted because of the piss, floors covered in piss, watered down overpriced drinks, so smoky one couldn't breathe, and they played the same damn five songs over
TRAGEDY SUROUNDED BY WALLS!
I'm not sure which is worse, the fact that the floor is so filty that one's feet stick to it or the pitiful DJs (well, they do push the "play" button). Regardless, this place should be avoided like the plague.
